As ornamental garden plants, they are less common than annuals or perennials. Biennials tend to be free flowering, and produce good quantities of reasonably true seed - so you can grow your own plants on from saved seeds. Many commercially important crops are biennials - such as sugar beet, carrots, chicory and other roots crops like parsnips and other less obvious plants like the herb parsley.
